SQUARE THRU
Starting formation - facing couples. Facing dancers join right hands and pull by. (A quarter square thru, or square thru 1, has been completed.) Turn in one quarter (men right, ladies left), join left hands and pull by. (A half square thru, or square thru 2, has been completed.) Turn in one quarter as above and join right hands with facing dancer and pull by. (A three quarter square thru, or square thru 3, has been completed.) Turn in one quarter as above, join left hands and pull by but do not turn. (A full square thru, or square thru 4, has been completed.) Since the figure ends in couple formation for two couples, remember to form the couples handhold at the end where appropriate.
A call of "square thru" means square thru four.
If starting from a square of 8 dancers, the 4 dancers who performed the square thru remain in the center of the square at the end.
